EVALUATION TASK 3 - Distribution

Retreat (2011) PosterNow we come to the business point. Of course we are not just making the film but we also want someone to see our film as well. So now we have to think about who going to distribute our film. First of all I think our film is quite main stream which suitable for wide range of audience. Ideally I want my film to distribute globally but realistically that is not possible firstly because we obviously have no super star in our film so there will be no super fan who would buy the ticket as soon as it comes out and probably watch more than once and buy everything that involve the super star face. Secondly it is not based on any pre-sold elements so there will be no guarantee for the audience that our film will be great. We don’t have fancy technology that will attract the audience for example 3D or CGI or IMAX so for this film to distribute globally it is almost impossible. Don’t even have to mention distribute the film globally just distribute it to other country is hard enough to do, If I am the owner of the cinema in my own country I of course, wouldn’t want to risk my profit with a movie with no name stars, no name director and no guarantee that it going to be a big hit so I think we should start within the country. I look at some distribution company that specialise in low budget film and successfully distribute new director work for example “Slingshot Studios”, “Vertigo Films” and “Soda Pictures”. However, from this distributors they do not exactly specialise on our film genre but there is success in doing film with similar target audience. Vertigo film distribute the movie “Retreat” which is about the disease that spread in the island. I think this is very similar to our film and therefore I think I will choose them as a distributor for our film. Our target audience is young, male about 25-27 and University students, interest in what’s going on in the world and gadgets so I think what distribution company should do is firstly distribute the film in traditional way for example Poster, Billboard, TV, Magazine. Another thing that the distribution company could do to market the film is through internet as our target audience would spend quite a lot of time in front of the computer. The official website contain information about the film can be made. The use of social network  for example Facebook or Twitter can be set up because it makes it easy for people to access therefore it will help raise awareness of the film and also cost nothing at all. They can also do co-marketing with other product for example some restaurant that our target audience might go for example if they eat at the restaurant to the certain amount they can get discount for the tickets for the movies. This will help attract the target audience to see the film. I think our film will be distributed in the theatres in 2D format because first of all we are low budget film and we didn’t film it with 3D camera. Second of all even though we film it in 3D camera the content of the film is not suitable to make into 3D format anyway. I think for watching at home it should be release on iTunes because a lot of our target audiences   will interest in technology and it is convenient for them. It should also release in the traditional way like DVD as well.

EVALUATION TASK 5

EVALUATION 5

In our thriller, we include some scene, mise en scene and character to attract our target audience. Originally our primary target audience is male age between 25-35 that interest in technology. In the opening sequence we have the scene that the window suddenly change into a big T.V. screen this might appeal our target audience as it shows some futuristic technology. Later on in the film there will be an action scene where the hero of the story fight with the bad guy, this will help us attract male a
udience. This is because actions scene will give people excitement and keep the audience on the edge of their seat. This action scene will also help us attract younger audience as well because it will give them typical heroic feeling like Superman or Batman but in more mature and subtle way. The content of the movie also relate to real life situation as we based it on the current news about antibiotics resistance but exaggerate it. This is a bit like 2012 movie that predict the future of the world. This will attract a wider range of audience as the audience can feel more involve in the movie. The news content in the opening sequence including the news that happen in everyday life which will attract the audience as the audience will feel familiar with the situation which will make it easier for them to relate to their life. The news will also appeal to older audience as it make it more realistic and more serious not a pure Hero movie like Spiderman or Batman. We will also include deep emotional scene to appeal older audience and also women as well.

Mise en scene we used a backlit projector as a big futuristic T.V. screen that change from window to T.V. and also later on in the film we might add some gadgets that we don’t have yet today. This will help attract our target audience which is people who interest in technology as it is presenting technology in the future which will help getting their attention. We also create a news studio to make it looks futuristic, we also used water to make the floor of the flat looks reflective to make the atmosphere modern and futuristic. This will help attract the audience who already like Sci-Fi futuristic type of film as it will give them a futuristic atmosphere, however it is not too far in future so the audience can be more engage with the movie as they can relate some of it to their real life. We can see this in the Westminster studio in our title sequence. As we can see that it is the scene that the audience familiar, however there is some extra thing that we add to the scene to tell the audience that we are in the future. These prop will help trigger the audience fantasy about the future world which will make the audience more engage with the movie.

Simon Hudson is the main character of this thriller unlike typical hero that are handsome and perfect for example Superman or James Bond we portray this hero character in a more subtle way.The hero of our thriller is an ordinary man age 40+ who also face the same problem of medicine shortage, may be even worse as he does not have a lot of money. This will help attract the older generation in the same age as the character as they can fantasy themselves as a hero and be more involve in the movie also they will understand more about the movie as the character might face the same problem that they do for example about money, work and family. This give the audience a realistic feeling of the character that he is really a normal man which will make it easier for the audience to relate it to there real life. Unlike other typical heroes that still young and carefree. This character is more mature, this might appeal to the younger audience as he give a sense of security and kindness. It might appeal to the women as well as he representing a heroic, mature gentleman character.
