Pitching Ideas 1

Today, we had our first idea pitch. This really open up my view and this is the response our group get today

Our first idea about Art
- It is difficult to do because it will be a massive job to    create a set or find a location to film it.

The second idea about wake up in the hospital is quite nice even though it is quite typical but if we change a bit of it for example different places, different time or put more stuff in it this idea could work

The last one my idea of twins it turn out to be quite typical idea also it is quite hard to conveys the audience to believe in two minutes.

For me I think the second idea is quite strong and if we work a bit more on that and change some factor it can be really good. However our group now thinking about new fresh ideas as well.

Developing thriller ideas

In today lesson we used interesting news to get some inspiration for our thriller ideas. This open up our view point from our own little world to see the bigger world. This is some result from the brainstorm.

Prelim

Watching Documentary

Watching Documentary about another aspects of movies other from watching it as an audience, today we learned to watch it from the producer perspective and this is what I learned today...

The first five minutes of the movie is really important. In the opening it is really important to make sure the movie grab the audiences. It is hard to do the good opening, because you have to give them a little information which enough to make them curious but not too much that makes they know the whole movie. In the director perspective it is important to know what going to do next. They might have to take risk of not answer the question at all but that is the whole point of the movie.

Because the audience make a very quick judgement on movie so in the opening scene it is not only have to grab the audience attention it also have to establish a bit of the character and a bit of the movie therefore the audience knows what kind of movie they going to watch.

There is two ways in doing the opening sequence either shock the audience or another way is to settle the audience and leads them in to the movie. This is a typical opening scene that we often see in the movie.

Start with Establishing shot to show the location >>> then building >>> then window >>> then pass receptionist to the set>>> see the character

This might look like very simple opening. However, the audience already take a lot of information from this. From the start we already know that where is the movie taking place, what is occupation of the hero and we already know that something going to ruin this normal peaceful world.

The best kind of title sequence is "No Dialogue" the story is telling through film language which include mise en scene, sound, camera and editing only these it can do more than telling the story it also setting tone for the movie.

The title sequence of the movie se7en is very effective because even though it doesn't tell anything about the movie. It establish tone of the movie and also establish the obsession of the character. This is very effective as it makes the audience feel like it is a part of the movie, It setting a tone for a movie and also foreshadow what kind of the story going to happen.

This is couple of example of title sequence

Stepfather
The fact that he put all his equipment in really organise way suggests that his obsession. From this we already knows that the film going to be about psycho murderer.

In this shot when we see the blood it foreshadow the bad things that going to happen already.

What we learn from editing

During editing we actually learned more about filming as well because there is some problems that make editing more difficult and also there is some good point that makes the sequence look really nice when we edited it. This is some of the point we find out during editing.

Space between saying rolling, action and when the actors really act
This is because when we edit our prelim we found out that the voice come in and therefore we have to cut that useful bit out so next time we have to leave a bit of a gap so we can use the whole shot.

Markers
The markers that tell where actor should stand is too obvious. It is not a problem in close up or over the shoulder shot but in wide shot we can actually see that the actor walk to stand on the marker therefore next time we might have to make it less obvious to cover up this little detail.

Dialogue
Some dialogue is missing from some shot so even though we want to use that particular shot for that particular words it wasn't there!!! Next time we have to make sure we got everything which will make it so much easier in editing it.

Continuity
Little detail such as door opening and door closing does make a lot of different! I just realise how important continuity is when I really have to edit it. We have to cut a lot of shot out because the door is not close at the same time. I thought I'm really careful during filming about continuity but this really tell me to be more careful about it.

Here it comes some good things we did yeah!

Variety of Shots
Because we did some extra shots like close up on hands, high angle shots, door closing, low angle shots and other detail shots we actually have a lot of shots to play around. It is like choosing clothe in a way, the more clothes you have the more choice you have to mix and match. So because of the variety of shot the sequence we edit look pretty cool because there is a lot of details going on.

I am very satisfied with our prelim after editing even though it is very short it looks really nice. We can also spot a lot of good things and bad things from editing and filming so I am sure our thriller will be even better! I'm looking forward to it!

In today lesson we learn the basics of how to use "Final Cut Pro". It is pretty professional program as you can tell from the name so for me(who has no skill what so ever) it is quite hard  but   I'm getting there, I'm going to be a pro in Final Cut Pro
and today lesson is my first step..!!

So this is some of the things I learned today
Because all the video is collected in one computer and all of the files are shared in "Final Cut Server" go to our work and check out our stuff on to desktop first then we can work from it.

First step
Before we do anything we should organise our work by creating rush bin and log bin first. It is basically like creating a folder.

Rush bin  is for all the original work, doesn't matter if it works or not.

Log bin is for the work that you going to use in editing.

Next step play the clip, when you get to the bit you want press I (Insert) then drag it down to the area underneath make sure the arrow point down then put it there.

Then to cut the bit that you don't want press B for blade and then A and then backspace

as easy as that!(not really) It just take me a bit of time to play around with it.
