Today Emily Wyatt from Polydore Records come and talk to us about her job as a commissioning editor for video. Her job is to go through the treatment with artist and find the right director to do the music video.

Each work is different depend on how big the artist is. This is because they will have different budget to make a video, Big artist will have budget something like 25,000 + Unknown artist will have something like 6000+

Why is this matter? 

 Big budget means you can invest it in well known director, CG, fancy location 

If you only have small budget then your video will be performance based video because it is quick easy and cheap 

Then it comes to treatment. Treatment is the short paragraph of text and some picture that explain the concept of music video Emily will go through this with the artist. They will pic the one they like.

After video is done is the exhibition  bit. The most important exhibition is on VEVO this is because it hits the target audience. Also VEVO have advertising bit that will help promote the video as well.

This is some of the feedback from Luke and James

- We have to be careful about our art direction because it is meant to look serious not comical. If we want people to believe in it and take this seriously art direction is very important

-  The example video of "Slowmotion, Fastmotion" is done by "ramping the camera" which take a lot of set up and a lot of time to shoot. However, we can probably do something similar

- The actual narrative might not be enough for the whole song. What we can do about it is add another scene that going on at the same time of people digging the ground to go to where the performance is

- The Performance bit should be set in the studio instead of in the wood because it is easier to do the lighting and the shooting in november is not as reliable therefore it is better to do it in the studio. Also it could be a metaphor of the music as well, As it start of as underground music.

- The mask has to be custom made because we don't want people to see and say "yeah! we seen that fox mask in the party shop near my house blah blah blah" So it better not to be seen anywhere before!

IDEA 03 - Girl with one eye

The idea for this video is about the innocent girl who has a really innocent look. However, when she touch anything it become broken. When she walk pass everyone seem to be sad. The video will start with the girl sitting alone on the old looking chair in the middle of the room. It is set in the house of wealthy family. The room she sit in is quite empty. She going out of the room  trying to put on the radio . However, when she press the button the smoke start coming out of the radio. She go down to the kitchen to make breakfast. She made an omelet but overcook it until it becomes black as well as sausage. She served to three old teddy beer that represent her family. She begin to dance around the house and the house start falling down. Even though everything become broken, she still see it as it is normal. At the end she wakes up and sitting on the same chair in the same room. The camera zoom out of the room and everything is in there place perfectly.

The Brief

Produce a promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:

a website homepage for the band;

a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);

a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).

Visual inspiration collection #2

I think this effect will be so cool on music video. I first saw this on the movie Sherlock Holmes 2. It is a slow motion effect and this video explain what I mean.  I don't know how to use it yet but I think it will be really nice in music video so I think I just keep collecting these things so I know where it from before I forget it and it might become useful as well.
