Editing in After Effect

We done editing our sequence in final cut pro now we move on to After Effect! It is such a cool programme. Before I came to this school I always wanted to use this software. However I have no idea at all how to use it and how cool it can be! In this lesson I learnt some of the basics of how to use this programme and I'm now going to tell you what I learn today!

Firstly what we do is to export the movie from Final cut pro to after effect so what we do is. Doublle click on the clip >>> export >>> quick time movie then create a folder something like "to after effect", name your work according to the sequence for example " 01 Katie Front" keeping your work organise is a very good thing because otherwise we going to get confuse later.

What we did in after effect is also building studio, we use the news studio we design in photoshop to make a 2 and a half D image which is sticking 2D image together and make it looks 3D. Now we have our news studio ready to go. Now we have to put it on the green screen and this is how we do it.

I getting more excited about our thriller now :) It looks very cool and futuristic, I can't wait to do more effects.

News Studio

People! This weekend I spend many hours making the news studio in Photoshop. We have been trying to find some background to use. However, the quality is not that great so we decide to make one of our own. I know a bit of how to use Photoshop but I have to say this is harder than I thought so basically the idea is two wall stick together to creates a corner so it looks like there is space in the room. This is what we want it to look like...

My first attempt doing it didn't turn out very well so I redo it with a little bit more details using everything I know about photoshop....soo tadahh News Studio finish ready to use...

I crop out Stella’s picture from the shoot day in to see how it looks like. Add the channel’s logo and now it looks like News on TV.

I actually quite proud of myself doing that even though tomorrow my group probably say it rubbish hahaha. I will get some feed back tomorrow so I can make it even more convincing. From doing this I learned a lot more about Photoshop and I love doing it so hopefully my group like it too. I will tell you the feed back tomorrow

Getting Ready!

Now we come to our final turn of our thriller! We had a lot of changes during planning. This is our last decision because we going to shoot on Thursday the 17th and we have to get everything sorted! Every single details of this thriller should be prepare because I think this is a really challenging idea to do, it will either turn out really cool or really bad so we try to be as ready as possible.

Luckily, on my long flight (12hours) back to England a week ago I have a chance to watch themovie Total Recall and I found something similar to our idea : ) This movie set in a future so I think it gives me a lot of idea of how my thriller going to look like. There is the scene where the main character watching the news on the floating T.V. and the format of the news look very futuristic and interesting. I think we can use that as our references to make our news convincing.

So this is the plan, we going to shoot our thriller 2 days. First of all we going to shoot our news first which is the most important part. Then we will edit the news and make it ready for another shoot of the man walking pass the screen. Most important part of  the first shoot is the script and we are working on that. We might have to get some footage of riot and tablet manufacturer in advance

We had a chance to talk to Matt and Luke too about our props and set. Over Christmas break I did some sketch on both of the set.

This is the sketch of the first set of the News Studio. I basically copied the layout from the typical news studio with simple big table two chairs and green screen on the back. However, Matt said that we should make it more futuristic because if we compare news in the past and news today, news today is a lot more casual so if we imagine news in the future it might be even more casual.

So I have a look at the news in 2000 and the news now in 2012. The main different I think is technology. There is more special techniques in 2012 such as moving animation and video conference on the background. The set is still simple in 2012 with just table and chair so I think there might not .

This is the sketch of the flat. However, it is very confusing about how the flat going to look like. Matt said we should keep it very minimal therefore there will be no furniture in here.

-The TV first shows the music channel.
-He then change the channel to extreme sport.

- He takes of his jacket and hang it on the wall
- The shot then cut into the T.V showing the
interview.
- Then it cut back to the flat again. Showing the guy walking to the table and put the flower in the bin.
- He then open the water bottle and pour it into his cup.

- The shot then cut back to the TV
- Close up shot of the news reader remind everyone to take the pill
- Abit overlap in time, cut back to the man watching  T.V.
-Close up of his hand taking the pill out.
- Mid shot of him taking the pill.

-Close up of his face taking the pill.
-Big close up of his mouth
-He drinking water from the cup
- The tiltle shows at the bottom of the cup which make it look like pill.
